About: Communication Goals

The E&PO Committee identified six goals that, collectively, should be addressed by all the ESD's formal and informal educational outreach products, programs, and partnerships. In priority order, these goals are:

1. Promote Earth science literacy
2. Increase support for NASA's Earth Science Enterprise
• Convey the importance and uniqueness of NASA's Earth science program and the myriad applications for which its data may be used
3. Develop the next generation of Earth scientists
4. Learn to communicate better with our target audiences
• Perform self-evaluations
• Conduct independent assessments,
• Establish feedback loops from our audiences
5. Support development of operational and commercial applications
6. Enable and empower our communications partners (e.g., museums, science centers, media providers, curriculum developers)

The Committee noted that, if properly implemented, goals 4-6 in the list above should also constitute good feedback loops toward supporting goals 1-3.
