Students Mental Models of Environmental and Earth Science Phenomena
The presentation will focus on students¹ construction of mental models as a means for making sense of environmental and Earth science phenomena and experiences. Conceptual and physical models will be compared and contrasted to students¹ mental models. Pedagogical implications and research methods will also be addressed.

About Our Speaker
Dan Shepardson is Professor of Geoenvironmental and Science Education with a joint appointment in the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Purdue University. He teaches an undergraduate course in environmental science and graduate courses in environmental and science education. His research explores students¹ conceptual understandings of environmental and geoscience phenomena as well as social interaction as mediated meaning making in science classrooms.
